May 2008 / Bott Radio Network Broadcasts Kansas City National Day of Prayer Live, May 1st
People from all walks of life gathered on the National Day of Prayer in Kansas City to glorify God and petition Him for our nation, Thursday, May 1st. The event, originally scheduled for Liberty Memorial in midtown Kansas City, was moved indoors to Bartle Hall Convention Center downtown due to forecasts of inclement weather. Bott Radio Network broadcast the event live on 760 AM for our listeners in the metropolitan area who could not attend. During the meeting the weather was deemed too severe to continue and the event was canceled and the crowd moved underground for safety by authorities. The formal program was preceded by a Family Prayer Walk which included stations covering Family, Church, Media, Education, Police, Military and Firefighters.

People prayed for schools both public and private at one of the stations on the Family Prayer Walk.
During the Family Prayer Walk, Dave Newman, Director of Marketing for Bott Radio Network laid hands on the police and asked God’s protection on them as they serve our city.
During the Family Prayer Walk preceding the scheduled presentation there was a replica of the Wailing Wall where people could stop and pray.
Rabbi Schmuel Wolkenfield of Or HaOlam Messianic Congregation opened the proceedings with prayer and the sounds of the shofar.
Maurice Gadson, Worship Pastor at Christian Fellowship Baptist Church led the Worship.
Rich Bott, Executive Vice President of Bott Radio Network and Honorary Co-Chairman of the KC National Day of Prayer welcomed everyone to the event and offered historical insights on prayer throughout our nation’s history.

A tornado touched down in Gladstone that evening, destroying homes and businesses.
After the meeting was abruptly ended, many chose to stay underground during the violent weather outside. Here, Kansas City Police officers explain conditions outside as straight line winds over 85 miles an hour and golf ball size hail.
The violent weather predicted that caused the event to move from Liberty Memorial to Bartle Hall appeared in the middle of the meeting causing it to be canceled at that time. Downtown was pounded by rain, lightning and high winds. Just north of downtown Kansas City, a tornado tore through several homes and businesses.
